Prakash Mehra continues to produce films at a rate of one per year, even though he has retired from filmmaking. His most recent film is 2010's Aakrosh where he was once again nominated for his work in the Best Foreign Language Film category. Prakash Mehra was born on February 10, 1934 in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. He has three younger brothers and one sister. He is married to Jayshree Mehra and has five children: Prabodh Mehta, Pramod Mehra, Paresh Mehta, Ranjit Mehta, and Rinu Mehra. His two sons are also filmmakers - Prabodh is a cinematographer while Ranjit is a director. Mehra studied at Hindu High School in Kolar Gold Fields at age 11. He attended Mysore University for a B.Sc. degree, doing his final year of studies at Nizam College, Hyderabad. After graduation Mehta worked as a teacher and for nine years as a lecturer at Maharaja's College before starting his career in films in 1959 as an assistant director with director R.S. Mehra entered the film industry as an assistant director and was trained by Satyajit Ray and Raj Kapoor before entering the film business himself. He has worked with his younger brother Paresh on some of his films. Mehra started his career as an assistant director with Satyajit Ray. He worked with him on "Seemabadha" (1957) and "Jalsaghar" (1958), but it was not until "Abhijan" (1962) that he began to get noticed by the public.
